When you sign up for the beta, we store your email address with the service Buttondown (Buttondown, LLC, USA). The email address is used exclusively to inform you about the beta launch and updates to Yesterday. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (USA). When you visit the site, technical data (IP address, browser type, time of access) is automatically recorded in server log files. This is required to deliver the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. We do not embed tracking pixels, social media plugins or any other third-party scripts.
By using Vercel (hosting) and Buttondown (email service), data is transferred to the United States. Both providers are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, port your data and object to its processing. For any inquiries, please contact hello@yesterday-journal.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
Yesterday stores all journal entries, media (photos, videos, audio), places, people and other content exclusively on your device. There are no Yesterday servers — we never have access to your content.
If you enable iCloud, your data is synchronized between your devices through Apple's CloudKit inside your personal iCloud account. The sync runs exclusively through Apple's infrastructure inside your private iCloud container; Yesterday itself has no access to it. Data is transferred encrypted following Apple's iCloud security standards. You can disable iCloud sync for Yesterday at any time in the iOS or macOS system settings.
Yesterday uses Apple's MetricKit framework to receive anonymized crash and performance reports — but only if you have consented in iOS to sharing this data with app developers (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → "Share With App Developers"). These reports are delivered directly by Apple, contain no personal data and no journal content. You can disable sharing system-wide in the iOS settings at any time.
Yesterday optionally collects anonymized usage statistics to improve the app (e.g. which features are used, general stability data). Only aggregated, non-personal events are recorded — no journal content, no media, no places, no personal names, no device IDs. You can disable this telemetry at any time in the app settings under "Diagnostics & Telemetry". The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
During the TestFlight beta, Apple's TestFlight privacy terms apply additionally. As part of TestFlight, Apple collects technical data (e.g. build installations, crashes) and provides it to us in aggregated form. Details: Apple TestFlight & Privacy.
